Fireball XL5 is the name of an indie-pop show hosted by Frank Seglenieks that for 18 years was on CKMS 100.3 FM Radio Waterloo. However, as a result of a format change in mid-2008, Fireball XL5 is now heard only as a podcast.

Of course I stole the name of the show from the 60s British Supermarionation program, which featured puppets kind of like the movie Team America.

I play alternative music that usually classified as indie-pop with the occasional feature on a particular artist or theme as well as discussions on pop culture topics of the day. I start off each show with the best song that I have heard since the last
show.

Note that the links to shows older than 6 months might not be working, if you really want those shows please send me an email and I can get them to you.

Theme: More leftovers
On Air: Frank

Not much to say about this show, still working on lots of leftover song list that just seems to get bigger each week.

One of the cool things about CKMS was the new release section, although a lot of time it didn't have much I was interested in, every once in a while it was nice to flip through a CD from somebody I had heard about. One such CD would have been the new release from Montreal's Hexes and Ohs that I happen to know is at CKMS. But I was able to find a place to stream the new album so with a bit of work anything is possible.

Here are some of the links I mentioned during the show:

Ed Greene Download
I said during the show that you could download this song by Ed Greene
from his record label, but their website is now under construction.

Theme: Holy F*%$ Mr. Sulu
On Air: Frank

I started out with the Stolen Minks from their new album "High Kicks" that I got when I saw them in Guelph. It was a great show, but I have a beef with the venue as although there were 4 bands the first one didn't go on till 11:30 pm. Once again a reminder that The Minks are doing 10 week tour that will probably be coming to a city near you.

I also played the band Holy Fuck (which I'm sure is setting off all kinds of alarms in your e-mail program) who were not only in the news lately for their name ( http://www.hour.ca/news/news.aspx?iIDArticle=15362 ) but are also playing a great festival in London Ontario this weekend ( http://www.lolafest.com/ ).

I got to play the song "The Other Side Of Mr. Sulu" by the Show Business Giants as once again George Takei got in the news: http://www.gaylesbiantimes.com/?id=13075 . The song features great samples from Star Trek including my favourite "It fires lead pellets propelled by expanding gases from a chemical explosion".

During the show I also mentioned that the new Pelle Carlberg album can be heard here: http://www.labrador.se/index_lab115.php3 and the song from Architecture in Helsinki was from the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3ZqjufDWBY .

Also note that as I no longer have to worry about CRTC regulations, there are some songs on this particular show that contain some very dirty words, well at least one word that is repeated more than a few times in some of these songs.
