Fireball XL5 is the name of an indie-pop show hosted by Frank Seglenieks that for 18 years was on CKMS 100.3 FM Radio Waterloo. However, as a result of a format change in mid-2008, Fireball XL5 is now heard only as a podcast.

Of course I stole the name of the show from the 60s British Supermarionation program, which featured puppets kind of like the movie Team America.

I play alternative music that usually classified as indie-pop with the occasional feature on a particular artist or theme as well as discussions on pop culture topics of the day. I start off each show with the best song that I have heard since the last
show.

Note that the links to shows older than 6 months might not be working, if you really want those shows please send me an email and I can get them to you.

Although a new person is now alternating with us, unfortunately she was
unable to do the show this week, this means I've had to do the show 3
weeks in a row. Hopefully, soon we'll be on an alternating schedule.

Dave came on the show Jan 15, 1999, unfortunately it looks like we won't
be able to do his MP3 set, but as always he had some interesting stories
to tell.

I was lucky to be joined this show by a bevy of people who shared their
best of the year on the subjects of music, movies and tv, although there
was no concensus about anything.

Yes, once again I had to do a show last week, but I finally got in touch
with the guy I'm supposed to be switching with and he told me that he is
too busy and will be quitting CKMS. Hopefully, next year I will be able
to get someone more reliable to switch off with so I can have a regular
schedule. I'm off this week, but on Dec 18 its the Christmas show.

Bruce Cockburn - If I had a Rocket Launcher *Note 4

Note1: This song by Afrika Bambaataa was the first song I ever played on
the radio when I started so many years ago on CHRW Radio Western.

Note2: Looking at the linear notes of this best of Edith Piaf album she
looks a lot like my mother.

Note3: Although they had no pictures on the album, I don't think 808 State
bears any resemblence to my mother (an ad lib from the show).

Note4: Of course dedicated to "Rocket" Roger Clemens for his demand of a
trade from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Note5: This is an album of orchestral versions of Madonna songs, doesn't
it seem like they should have done this 5 years ago when she was more
popular?
